Fantasy Characters
Characters in Fantasy can span all types, all races, all religions, and then make up just a few more to go along.
A story starts with a Main Character, usually the Protagonist. The reader is navigated through the story of this good guy/girl, and in the process, the reader gets to learn about the world, and the people surrounding the Progtagonist.
Occassionally, the Main Character is locked in a battle of force or wills with the Antagonist almost as soon as the story starts, sometimes before. Generally, the villain is introduced slowly as the Main Character begins figuring out what is going on.
There's always a goal at the end for the Hero or Heroine. Whether it be saving a person, saving a kingdom or saving the world. And typically, they're rewarded for their efforts, but more often they are able to complete their quest without alerting the rest of the world. And then, the reward is only the knowledge of a job well done. And for most heroes, that's enough.
Popular Fantasy Character Archetypes
Often times, the Hero and the Villain of a story, aren't that far apart character-wise. They may have started down the same career path: Rogue, Wizard, royalty - and at some point it changed. Below is a break-down of some commonly used archetypes for character types. However, some of these character types may be used for both the Protagonist and the Antagonist of a story.
